Resume Tip #7: Your middle name should be abbreviated to the first letter
Did you know that airlines and airport police officers only need your first and last name? Even though your passport contains your full name, you’re not required to use it when you book a flight.
Resume Tip #7: Your middle name should be abbreviated to the first letter.
What you need to do:
- Abbreviate your middle name to the first letter (e.g. ”Susan” to ”S.”);
- Try to not use a dash to connect your first and middle name. Passports and debit/credit cards remove this dash, despite what the birth certificate says.
When I was using my full name, I often used to get questions like ”so how do friends call you?” from people I just met. It’s just simpler for everyone if you introduce yourself with just your first name. Having your full middle name on your resume is kind of irrelevant to the recruiter.
